MTU Onsite Energy, a key brand within Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG, is a trusted name in diesel and natural gas engine solutions. Rolls-Royce has established itself as a leader in providing both high- and medium-speed engines and drive systems, building on a foundation of over a century in the engine industry. With more than 60 years of experience specifically in power generation, MTU was founded on July 11, 1969, through the partnership of Daimler-Benz and MAN AG, under the name Motoren-und Turbinen-Union (Engine and Turbine Union). Since its inception, MTU has specialized in engines with power outputs ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 horsepower.
In 1994, MTU joined forces with Detroit Diesel Corporation, which was originally founded by General Motors in 1938 as part of the GM Diesel Division and later expanded to include Allison’s engine gas-turbine segment in 1970. Before this partnership, Detroit Diesel was already a top diesel engine supplier across North America. This collaboration enabled MTU and Detroit Diesel to create a new range of products, propelling them into the global market as a leading producer of engines and power generation systems.
